Connect your assistant to Vindex
The flow is the same in every client: add the Vindex MCP server, sign in with your Vindex account, score a story. Pick your client for a page written in its own words, or use the generic steps below for anything else that speaks MCP.
Pick your client
One command in the terminal, then a ready check on every story your agent picks up.
About 3 minutesA custom connector in Settings; score any story you draft in the chat.
About 2 minutesA connector in ChatGPT settings; check the story before you paste it into Jira.
About 3 minutesRegister the server from the Codex CLI and give the agent a rule in AGENTS.md.
About 3 minutesOne entry in mcp.json; Agent checks the story before it touches the codebase.
About 3 minutesAn MCP server in VS Code for Copilot Chat, and in repository settings for the coding agent.
About 4 minutesThe three steps, everywhere
- 01
Add the server
One URL in your client's MCP or connector settings. Nothing is installed and no key is stored.
- 02
Sign in once
Your browser opens on the Vindex sign-in. Same account as the Vindex Portal; new users create one here.
- 03
Score a story
Ask for a score, or run the score-story command. Finding first, then the percentage and band.
Before you begin
- An MCP client: Claude Desktop or claude.ai, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot, or any client that speaks MCP over HTTP
- A Vindex account, or two minutes to create one during sign-in (free plan, up to 10 stories a month)
- No admin, no install, no API key
Any other MCP client
Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth can connect. Add a server with this URL; the client discovers the sign-in from the server itself, so there is nothing else to configure.
https://mcp.vindexgateway.com/mcpWhen the client asks you to authorize, your browser opens on the Vindex sign-in. After that, ask the assistant to score a story with Vindex. If the client supports MCP prompts, the score-story prompt appears as a command. The connection reference has the discovery documents and scopes for client authors.
Accounts and allowance
The MCP server is open to every registered Vindex user. You sign in with the same account you use for the Vindex Portal, and the organization you belong to is your company. If you are new to Vindex, the sign-in creates your account and your company on the free plan.
The free plan covers up to 10 stories a month for the company. A story counts once; every later score of it is free, so fixing what Vindex found and checking again never uses the allowance. Ask your assistant to check usage at any time.
